How is the Audio Quality in Video Glasses?

A lot of people are so excited when buying HD video cameras of any kind that they often forget to check out the sound quality.

For some reason, we all have an idea about Mega Pixels, but most people don’t even know what audio numbers mean.  I don’t even want to explain the meaning because a lot of companies can slap tags on promising good sound.  There is only one true test.  Ask to try them in the store and see for yourself to how they sound.  You should get in the habit of doing this for video quality too.

One cool advantage to the wireless video cam glasses over traditional camcorders is actually in sound.  They obviously can’t compare with the sound in Hollywood movies or good quality radio, but they are better than many camcorders because you are the one talking and the video glasses are near your mouth.

Sound gets distorted rapidly the further someone is from the camera.  That’s why news reporters wear those little microphones on their shirt even though they are only a few feet away from the best cameras in the world.  By the nature of the video glasses, your mouth will always be close from the microphone.   The background noise will be as expected with any camera.

The take home point is that the sound quality can be surprising good but you need to be savvy enough to check for yourself in the differences between various brands.  Beware of gimmicks.
