There are several types of video recording sunglasses on the market but the quality isn’t there yet. The problem with the current ones is that the electronics aren’t made by the top Taiwanese manufacturers in the world. There are less than a handful of companies, all from Taiwan, that are capable of making these kinds of things with proper specs. All the lenses from the top brands like Sony, Canon, Fuji, and Apple are made by the same few companies. These manufacturers are the only companies capable of producing quality.
Imagine polarized sunglasses that look as stylish as the top brands which can also record high def videos that will rival any hand held HD camcorder in quality. This will be a reality by the fall of 2011. I know what Santa will be carrying next Christmas. He’ll probably be wearing a pair himself.
Hands free HD video recording is about to explode and create a whole new demand. The idea has been around for a while with helmet cams for extreme sports, but those are just a stepping stone in this latest chapter of video electronics. Helmet cams are kind of like the latest anti skip portable Diskman. Talk about barking up the wrong tree. They look ridiculous but the idea is on the right track. They are paving the way for quality POV video sunglasses to take off just like the Diskman paved the way for the first Ipod.
Point of View (POV) video recording is a relatively new concept. A lot of people don’t even know what it means. In case you don’t know, it basically means that you record what you see with your eyes without having to use your hands. (hence the term, “hands free video recording”)
The concept is awesome because the act of taking a video with your hands or on a tripod is a huge downer. You also can’t do anything cool while videoing something in the old fashioned way because you literally have your hands tied.
There is a new brand that is going to steal the show. The elves in Taiwan are getting ready to work on one of their coolest inventions of recent years. It’s easy to put electronics into sunglasses, but if you want them small and lightweight, how good can the quality realistically be?
I was able to get a sneak peak at the brand of glasses that won the high tech innovation award from 3M a few months ago. I saw the quality of the prototypes on a 60 inch TV and it’s really unbelievable. These are getting ready to be mass produced and will be the coolest thing under the tree for all the boys and girls who are nice this year. How good will they be? Go watch something in real HD on your TV and that will be your closest answer.
